teach our students not only how to ride, but all aspects of caring for the horse or pony. Our riding instructors are mature, competent & experienced horsewomen with lots of knowledge to share. Our students are great riders because they are confident, they are confident because they are well nurtured by our friendly encouraging instructors.
What we teach...
Blue Moon Farms offers beginner, intermediate, advanced,
trail riding and lead line lessons.
Beginner Lessons
are intended to help students ages 6 and up to become comfortable and learn what fun it can be to be around horses.
Students will be introduced to basic horsemanship skills; they will become familiar with their mounts and equipment, taught
grooming and tacking skills. Students will learn to mount, how to hold the reins, how to steer, how to walk and halt,
proper balance and seat. Beginner Lessons are 1 hour long. (The first few lessons may take a little
longer to allow the student to get to know the horse and become comfortable while learning to groom and tack up.)
Intermediate/Advanced Lessons will build on the foundation skills taught in beginner lessons.
Additional horsemanship skills will be taught as well as more advanced riding exercises. Students will move on to the
trot, canter and jumping as they are comfortable. Intermediate/Advanced Lessons are an hour long
Trail Riding
Lessons are available to students currently enrolled in our lesson program, as well as past students. They are intended
to introduce students to fun of trail riding. Once we feel that our students are familiar with their mounts and equipment,
have enough handle and basic skills needed to advance to trail riding, we welcome them to sign up for a trail riding lesson.
We will trailer to a trail riding destination where they will enjoy a ride while learning how to handle different situations
encountered while on the trails. These lessons average about 2 hrs long.
Lead Line Lessons
are intended to introduce younger children to horses. These are designed
for children 5 and under as well as older children with fear issues. Children will meet the horses, learn
about safety around horses and then go for a ride on the lead line. Lead line lessons average 30 minutes
(15 minutes of un-mounted instruction and 15 minutes mounted instruction).
